The philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, the last of the great German thinkers of the 19th century and in many ways the first great philosopher of the 20th century, still enjoys a bad reputation among many readers. The positions of a certain scholarship, which emphasizes some of the most radical cores of the philosopher’s thought, also contribute to painting a gloomy landscape, providing a strongly oriented reading. This is how Nietzsche, despite himself, became a theorist of racism, a supporter of social Darwinism, a forerunner of totalitarianism or at best a fan of Bismarckian-style Realpolitik.
Against these readings we want to propose here a change of pace, one that not only lets the texts speak again, but above all strives to restore Nietzsche’s thought to a supranational and eminently humanistic dimension, placing it in the hereditary line of the French Enlightenment and of thinkers like Goethe and Burckhardt, whom he himself recognized as his masters.
Friedrich Nietzsche’s thought is an anthropologically inspired philosophy and has the vocation of a practical ethics. It speaks to us of the human being and is addressed to the human being as a thinking individual who claims his role in history, culture and society. Instead of avoiding uncomfortable themes such as nihilism, the Superman, the will to power, the theories on the breeding of future humanity, this issue invites to take them head-on and evaluate all the potentialities and perspectives they prefigure.
What critical tool does the genealogical perspective provide and what project does it outline for European society? What value does Nietzsche attach to education and training of the human type and to the birth of a “sovereign individual”, capable of self-regulation and of becoming the bearer of new values as well as of a general responsibility?
These and other paths of research make it possible to delineate the boundaries of a philosophy that is directed towards whole humanity and that does not cease, today as then, to demonstrate its actuality.

Call for Papers, n. 10: “Nietzsche umanista”

La filosofia di Friedrich Nietzsche, ultimo dei grandi pensatori ottocenteschi tedeschi, ma per molti versi primo grande filosofo del Novecento, gode ancora oggi di cattiva fama presso molti lettori. Contribuiscono a dipingere un panorama a tinte fosche anche le posizioni di una certa scholarship che enfatizza alcuni dei nuclei più radicali del pensiero del filosofo, fornendone una lettura fortemente orientata. E’ così che Nietzsche, suo malgrado, diviene un teorico del razzismo, un sostenitore del darwinismo sociale, un precursore dei totalitarismi o nel migliore dei casi un estimatore della Realpolitik di stampo bismarckiano.
Contro queste letture si vuole proporre qui un cambio di passo, che torni non solo a far parlare i testi, ma soprattutto si sforzi di restituire il pensiero di Nietzsche a quella dimensione sovranazionale ed eminentemente umanistica, ricollocandolo nella linea ereditaria dell’Illuminismo Francese e di pensatori come Goethe e Burckhardt, che egli stesso ha riconosciuto come suoi maestri.
Il pensiero di Friedrich Nietzsche è una filosofia eminentemente antropologica ed ha la vocazione di un’etica pratica. Essa ci parla dell’uomo e si rivolge all’uomo, come uomo tra gli uomini, in quanto individuo pensante e che rivendica il suo ruolo nella storia, nella cultura e nella società. Invece di scansare temi scomodi, come il nichilismo, il Superuomo, la volontà di potenza, le teorie sull’allevamento dell’umanità del futuro, questo numero invita a prenderle di petto e a valutarne tutte le potenzialità e le prospettive che prefigurano.
Quale strumento critico ci fornisce la prospettiva genealogica e quale progetto prefigura per la società europea? Quale valore Nietzsche riconosce all’educazione e alla formazione del tipo uomo e al progetto di un “individuo sovrano”, capace di autoregolarsi e di farsi portatore di nuovi valori oltre che di una responsabilità generale?
Queste ed altre possibili piste di ricerca permettono di delineare i confini di una filosofia che si rivolge all’umanità tutta e che non cessa, oggi come allora, di dimostrare la propria attualità.
